Kmart has been struggling for a long time. Now not only are they slashing prices, they're slashing jobs, and closing stores. The Utica area Kmart will not be affected, but the list of those shutting down is extensive.

A couple of Kmart stores have already closed in Central New York including one in Fulton and one in Dewitt, but for one reason or another, the one located in New Hartford will remain open.

Perhaps the "Bluelight Specials," and the high traffic location are to thank, or maybe it's their clever TV ads:

When I was a kid, my grandmother would take me to pick out a toy at Kmart on Commercial Drive. I still remember listening to this sweet soundtrack as I rushed down the aisle to find the latest Star Wars action figure.  Did you know K-Mart accidentally ran one of the best radio stations you’ve never heard? Kmart's annual sales have been declining since 2008, so closing the doors at several of its locations seems like the logical thing to do. According to the LA Times:

"Store closures are part of a series of actions we’re taking to reduce ongoing expenses, adjust our asset base, and accelerate the transformation of our business model;" said company spokesman Howard Riefs.
