The Herkimer Kmart will close it's doors this fall. The latest round of closings announced by the Sears Holding Co affects the Washington Street location.

Eddie Lampert, Sears Holdings Corporation Chairman and CEO says they will focus on the best stores and return to profitability. "This is part of a strategy both to address losses from unprofitable stores and to reduce the square footage of other stores because many of them are simply too big for our current needs. We have fought hard for many years to return unprofitable stores to a competitive position and to preserve jobs and, as a result, we had to absorb corresponding losses in the process."

Liquidation sale at the Herkimer Kmart could begin as early as July 13th.

The company announced late last year the New Hartford Kmart would close. It's last days was in April. Locations in Liverpool, Malone, Cortland and Watertown were also placed on the chopping block last month.
