How To Turn Off ‘Frequent Locations’ So Your Phone Can’t Track Your Every Move

While watching the Today Show this morning, Jeff Rossen hosted a segment called "Rossen Reports" about how smartphones are tracking our every single move. Now of course we know GPS is usually on in most phones, but that's not what the report talked about. Our smartphones are tracking EVERY single move we make, location by location, and even how much time we spent there.

Now if you think this can't happen to you, you better check. I was shocked to learn this setting was turned on my phone, and even shows a map of the exact location I was at. I took a screen grab of how it shows me at work:

Why does this exist? Apple told NBC News they use the information to provide personalized services and that "it's kept solely on your device and won't be sent to apple without your consent." However, Google is a little different:

If it's an Android, all that tracking data is being sent straight to Google."

I don't know about you, but I don't feel like "Big Brother" watching me 24/7. Here's how to turn this of, and also it doesn't effect GPS or anything similar to that. I have an iPhone so I took screen grabs to show you how it works:

1) Under Settings, select Privacy.

2) Select System Services

3) Select Frequent Locations

4) Clear History by hitting the button

5) Slide Frequent Locations to "off" position
