Wintery, white and wet. Those are the words the Farmer's Almanac is using to describe winter for Upstate New York.

The upcoming winter will bring below normal temps for most of the U.S. with the coldest part of winter setting in near the end of January and into the first week of February. The Northern Plains could see temperatures at 40 below!

The cold weather will also bring lots of the white stuff. The frigid air blowing across the Great Lakes, will drop heavy amounts snow in our area.

We are 'red flagging' the first 10 days of January and the first week of February along the Atlantic Seaboard for active wintry weather featuring bouts of heavy precipitation and strong winds.

Despite the cold temperatures and heavy snow, the Great Lakes area could see below normal amounts of precipitation this winter. At least there's a silver lining.

So keep the shovel handy. It looks like you're going to need it. And you might want to stock up on wood to keep the home fires burning.

We're central New Yorkers. The Farmer's Almanac outlook sounds like just another winter for our neck of the woods. We can handle the snow. As long as it doesn't last for 6 months and falls 6 feet at a time.
