Safe, patient driving is extremely important, especially in work zones. It's drivers like this that put Department of Transportation and construction workers at risk while they're on the job.

The New York State DOT shared video of a frightening incident that happened last week on Palisades Parkway in the Hudson Valley. A DOT Help Operator was directing traffic at a crash scene when an impatient driver in a red Toyota gassed their car right into him. The Help Operator tried to stop the vehicle from continuing to drive, but he ended up having to jump on top of the car's hood to avoid being run over. Luckily, he jumped up just in time as the driver sped up, and he did not have to hang on for long as another DOT worker pulled him off and a truck sped past to block the vehicle.

The NYSDOT shared four different camera angles of the incident, each one giving more terrifying insight into what happened.

The department shared that while the employee was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was understandably pretty shaken up, he did not sustain any major injuries.

The NYSDOT did not share what happened to the driver and whether or not they are facing charges because of the incident.

Whether it's a case of road rage, impatience or just flat-out negligence, we hear about these kind of things way too often. If you're stuck in a work zone and will be a few minutes late to work, take a deep breath and practice patience. And for the millionth time, if you see a car pulled over on the side of the road, move over.
