You can fish for great tasting bass, blue gill, and walleye on Cazenovia lake. Did you know you're also able to fish for ghosts? Cazenovia Lake is home to much of Madison County's paranormal activity. Let's discuss a few of the ghost stories and urban legends.

1) East Lake Road

Just outside the lake you can take a drive on East Lake Road. One paranormal report filed with the Shadowlands describes a reporter driving on the road reportedly seeing apparitions of a young lady and an older woman dressed in 18th century dresses on the side of the road.

As the witness slowed down to see if they needed any help, but then sped up again once they realized that their headlights were passing right through them."

I've been down this road only once, and felt major chills.

2) 1800's Steamboat Victim

Many ghosts are results of how the spirit passed away. On the lake, apparently a steamboat has caused many spirits to appear. One of which is of a little boy. Many people have reported hearing a child calling for help, but people are never able to find what the source is. If you research the steamboat accident, you will find a newspaper article from 1873. Could this be the boy people are hearing?

3) Bride And Groom Killed

Central New York is no stranger to bride and groom ghost stories. In the late 1700's, a Native American Princess from the Onondaga nation was getting married to a man from the Oneida Nation. The wedding night turned into a nightmare:

"The Oneida Indians basically came and crashed the party per se, and the bride and groom went into a canoe and went across the lake, and before they were able to get to the end of the lake, the canoe sank. People say they hear what sounds like fighting on the lake, and they'll hear what sounds like a woman crying because supposedly this bride's husband had died during this attack"

Other reports have seen this bride on banks of the lake, and the Canoe is still at the bottom of the lake. In the 1970s, the canoe was reinforced with metal and sent back to the depths of the lake. It's considered a memorial for the bride and groom.
