Another data breach makes you think twice about online shopping. Macy's is the latest retailer to report customer profiles being compromised. Even more maddening, it happened in April and we're just now getting the news.

Hackers got the customer's full name, address, phone number, email address, birthday and debit or credit card number with expiration dates. They didn't get social security numbers or the CVV numbers on the back of your card. But as a guy who just went through something similar, that doesn't mean thieves can't make ATM withdrawals from your account.

The hacking occurred from April 26 thru June 12, at which time Macy's blocked the profiles they felt were compromised. Here are their suggestions if you have an account:

  • Change your account password, it will remain blocked until you do
  • Contact your bank or credit card company to inquire about suspicious activity
  • Monitor your account closely for unauthorized transactions

Macy's is providing affected customers with a free year of identity theft protection. You should have received an email from the company about the data breach if you didn't, you can contact them online. Get more details at The Detroit Free Press's website.
