CNY Teen Beat Cancer — Now He Wants to Help Others
Ahmed Is Living Proof of What Hope Can Do
Right now, a Frankfort teen is getting ready to graduate high school, balancing sports, student government, two part-time jobs — and planning a future in nursing.
A few years ago, Ahmed was fighting for his life.
He was diagnosed with cancer after doctors discovered a tumor that required aggressive treatment. His family’s world flipped overnight. Hospital stays replaced normal teenage routines. The focus became survival.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital stepped in — and never stepped away.
From Patient to Senior — Class of 2026
Today, Ahmed is a senior and part of the Class of 2026.
“Things have been going really well since we last talked,” he said. “I’ve made the high honor roll and am involved in many clubs and activities at my school.”
He serves as secretary for his class and competes in indoor and outdoor track and field, throwing shot put, discus, and weight throw.

“Being able to do this sport is something I don’t take for granted,” he said. “I am very thankful for all of my coaches and my teammates who have helped me get better.”
There’s another milestone that says everything about how far he’s come.
“I’ve started going back to St. Jude every year now. For five years, we would go there every six months, but now we go once a year,” Ahmed shared.
From twice-a-year visits… to once a year. That’s progress. That’s hope.
His mom told us last year that St. Jude became like family. The nurses treated Ahmed like their own child. The doctors never gave up. And through it all, they never once had to worry about a bill.
Inspired to Give Back
In the fall, Ahmed plans to attend MVCC for nursing.
“My main motivation for that is my experience as a patient and all of the people who have helped take such good care of me throughout the years,” he said. “I want to help someone just like how all of these wonderful nurses and doctors have helped me.”
He’s also working two part-time jobs — helping second and third graders after school and working at the Nexus Center in a fast-paced environment.
“I’m really thankful for my whole community who have helped me this entire journey.”
