When I think of clever country songwriters, Roger Miller is at the head of this list. On today's "Country Classic Double", we're featuring the number one country song on this day back in 1964, "Dang Me" by Roger Miller. It's amazing to me how he created memorable sing-along- songs with such funny lyrics, often inventing words and all in rhyme.
Today we introduce a new theme to our "Country Classic Double" at 11:30 a.m...silly songs. I can't entirely take credit for this, as it was suggested to me by my good friend and colleague, Matt Herkimer. So, here are two songs that live up to the word silly. We begin with the king of novelty songs, Jerry Reed and his number one hit in 1982, "She Got the Goldmine (I Got The Shaft)", one of the greatest country song titles ever.
Today our "Country Classic Double" goes back to the 1960s, and one of the most clever singer-songwriters of the time...Roger Miller. Roger was one of the country artists who crossed over to pop charts, with his fun, clever and memorable songs.
Where is the sun? If this doesn't go down as one of the cloudiest, wettest Springs to date, it'll come close. Awhile back, Tadpole focused on songs about rain. Maybe if we focus on songs about sun, we'll see some.
It seems obvious to start with Trailer Choir's "Rolling Through The Sunshine." I'm sure they'll sing it when they take the stage at Frogfest this year, where we'll hopefully have lots of sun.
