The 24-year-old Johnstown, NY woman who was the subject of a two-week search back in June has been charged with reporting a false abduction.  State Police say Rachael Mattice made up the story about being abducted by a bearded man.

Mattice's family reported her missing on June 22nd after she went missing from her camp in Wells, New York.  The search for the missing woman involed 130 police officers, rangers and volunteers.  State Police Major William Keeler told the Albany Times Union the search cost "deep in the six-figures," and the money is "lost and can't be recovered."

Nearly two weeks after Mattice went missing, she returned home and said she was abducted by a white man in his late 50's.  She also said she was locked in a shed, blindfolded, and assaulted.

Despite being charged, Mattice is sticking to her story, and her family says they believe her.  She has been released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in court on August 9th.  Mattice could face a year in jail and a fine of $1,000.
