An article by radio consultant Keith Hill isn't sitting well with female country artists or country music fans. Hill suggests, "if you want to make ratings in Country radio, take females out. They’re just not the lettuce in our salad. The lettuce is Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton, Keith Urban and artists like that. The tomatoes of our salad are the females.”

The so called advice isn't sitting well with Martina McBride, who spoke out on Facebook. "Wow... just wow. Did you girls (core female listeners) know you were being “assessed” in this way. Do you not like to hear other women singing about what you are going through as women? Because to me, country music is about relating. Someone relating to what you are really going through on a day to day basis in your life."

Wow.....just wow. Just read this from a major country radio publication. How do you feel about this statement? I...

Carlene Carter replied to McBride's post saying, "Good God Ladies! Are they still as silly as they were back in the 90's! I was told early on by WB that women just didn't buy women's records. And since they were the people buying not to count on sales in the same way as men could. What a complete crock! Martina you have certainly proved them wrong over and over about this"

McBride isn't the only female country artist upset. Terri Clark shared her thoughts on Twitter.

Jennifer Nettles took a different approach, using the article to fuel her creative juices.

The article not only sparked outrage among country artists, fans aren't happy either, firing back with #Saladgate on Twitter. Looks like a lot of people like lots and lots of tomatoes in their salad.

Without tomatoes, 'Where Would You Be?' You'd be without a 'Coal Miners Daughter,' 'A Broken Wing,' 'Gunpowder and Lead,' or any other female country song that women around the world have cried to, laughed to and related to.

A salad with just lettuce is just boring and tasteless. It's the tomatoes that give it flavor. So give me tomatoes, lots and lots of tomatoes.
