How Do You Throw Away a Garbage Can

Let me start off by saying, the guys who ride around on the back of garbage trucks deserve a lot more praise than they get. Just like those that deliver mail, they go in all kinds of weather. And in our neighborhood, pickup time is well before sunrise. That's where my dilemma begins. 

This ratty, garbage can blew into our yard some time ago but I can't seem to get rid of it. As the pictures show; it's missing a wheel and has a huge crack in the bottom.  All obvious to the eye in daylight, but not so much in the dark.  Like a bad boyfriend or girlfriend; it's been to the curb on multiple occasions, but won't leave.  Any tips on how to throw out a garbage can?
