Fort Rickey has been open for 46 years in Rome. Even though the property is listed for sale, Fort Rickey is open for the 2018 season.

Len Cross and his family have owned the zoo for the past 40 years. Cross recently put the zoo on the market, with everything included, because he and his wife are ready to retire and spend more time with their grandchildren. In a recent interview with Samantha Madison from the Observer Dispatch Cross stated:

“This is our 40th year,” Cross said. “It really has been the most incredible lifestyle; it’s like any other kind of farm — it’s all encompassing — so we haven’t had a lot of options in our life. We haven’t been able to travel, we’re starting to have grandchildren; it’s really that.”

The zoo is 25 acres, with barns, exhibits, fenced paddocks, gift shop, parking lot, playground and picnic area. The entire discovery zoo can be purchased for $900,000.
