The Department of Environmental Conservation is hoping you'll help them monitor the big game in New York.  With the opening of gun season for deer and bear this weekend, they're opening a special check station in the Town of Avon.

"The value of hunter participation in DEC's data collection and research cannot be overstated," said Art Kirsch, DEC Region 8 Senior Wildlife Biologist. "Although it is completely voluntary, we encourage hunters to take a few minutes to help us gather information on this year's deer harvest and increase our knowledge about diseases in the deer population."

DEC staff will determine deer age and collect other important biological and harvest information.  The station is at State Routes 5 & 20 in the Town of Avon.  It is open Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 19 and 20 from 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., and weekdays thereafter from 8:45 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.
