It's a double celebration at the annual Salmon River Fish Hatchery open house this year. The  Department of Environmental Conservation will be celebrating National Hunting and Fishing Day September 23 and the reopening of the Hatchery Building that has been closed for renovations.

The open house will run from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and feature guided tours of the renovated facility.  Kids can also learn how to cast a fishing rod, tie flies, and participate in a laser shooting range. And if you have never witnessed the fish ladder that assists in migration and spawning, it's mind blowing.

Several recreational and conservation groups along with fishing and hunting clubs will offer other activities and displays. It's all free and open to the public.  The Salmon River Hatchery is located at 2133 County Route 22, Altmar, Oswego County. Get more details at the DEC's website.
