If you love camping in the Adirondacks or Catskills, the Department of Environmental Conservation would love for you to play host. Officially it's called, Camping Ambassador. In a nutshell, they'll hook you and up to five friends with a free site if you'll help with activities and assist new campers.

There is some commitment to being an Ambassador. You have to serve a minimum of two weeks between July 1 and Labor Day. A week is considered 5 days including holiday and weekends for two-five hours each day. Among your dutes will be welcoming campers and assiting new-comers with the basics. Hosting walks, explaining activities available at the park, cooking facilties and family crafts.

6 parks in the Adirondacks and 2 in the Catskills participate in the Ambassador program. Get more details and the application at the DEC's website. Deadline to apply is March 30.
