If there is one thing we understand in New York, it is how to have fun. Even if that fun may seem crazy to people outside the Empire State.

For the most part, New York is almost like two separate areas. Upstate and Downstate. There isn't a defined line. Some will say the middle axis of the state and north is Upstate New York, while others say just north of New York City. Regardless of where you fall on that debate, there are definitely actions that define an Upstate New Yorker, and these 16 things are it.

The reason for that is that many around New York City never could imagine possibly doing any of these things. Sometimes for fashion, other times for how wild and out there the ideas might be. Having fun means sometimes you need a hint of danger added in. Having fun in New York also means getting creative. We have some extreme weather in the Winter, and man, we sure know how to take advantage of it.

When it comes to oddities, we sure have them. While other states may have their own little oddball features and quirks, they aren't the oddball or quirky New York things that make us as a whole incredibly unique.

Another major thing about the 16 things below, many people who live outside of New York State have zero clue about many of them. We kind of like it that way, because they remain only ours.
