World Series…West Vs. Midwest And My Thoughts

The Fall Classic during the "Frog Days of Fall", or Major League Baseball's World Series gets underway on Wednesday, when the St. Louis Cardinals host the Texas Rangers in Game One at 8:05 p.m.  All games will be televised on Fox-TV.

On an interesting country note (no pun intended), country singer and American Idol winner Scotty McCreery will sing the national anthem at the open of game one. The series is the best four out of seven games, and the designated hitter rule will be in effect when games take place in the Rangers (American League) ballpark, but pitchers will have to hit when they play in St. Louis.

Now, my thoughts. The question that always comes up with the World Series and other professional sports championship games is that with all the pre-game hoopla, the games seem to start later and go longer, making it difficult for kids to stay up and watch a complete game. And if any of the games go into extra innings, forgetaboutit!

Without the Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies or other big market teams, the other question will be how much national interest will there be? I say, hey, it's the World Series already, and in football, no matter who's in the Super Bowl, we still watch it.
