You know the story of Ebeneezer Scrooge, the main character in Charles Dickens'  "A Christmas Carol". Through the years, there have been numerous movies, TV presentations and live productions of that haunted holiday story. In fact, just last weekend The Players of Utica presented "Scrooge - The Musical" at the Stanley Center for the Arts in downtown Utica, with Richard Enders reprising his role as Scrooge.

Where do we begin with memorable Scrooge portrayals? There's Alistair Sim, the British actor as the old skin-flint in the black & white 1951 film "Scrooge". Or perhaps you lean toward George C. Scott as Scrooge in a 1984 TV movie. Then there was Patrick Stewart (Star Trek Next Generation's  Captain Jean-Luc Picard) as the tightwad in a 1999 TV production.

Who could forget Michael Caine as Scrooge in the 1992 film, "The Muppet Christmas Carol"? And, there was the funny wise-guy version of the character, starring Bill Murray as the main character in the 1988 film, "Scrooged".

Each year, in the McShea household, we watch a number of "Christmas Carols", and I would have to say that our favorite Scrooge is....
