You thought it was cold in central New York. It'll sound warm compared to the summit of Whiteface Mountain where wind chills dropped to near -80.

The temperature reached -29 Friday January 5th with wind gusts of 90 MPH, making the wind chill drop to -79. It warmed up a bit to -20 Saturday and Sunday but still cold enough to cause frostbite in 10 minutes.

That's cold but not as cold as 3 years ago when the wind chill hit -110 at the summit. The temperature was at 29 below zero, with 54 MPH winds.

Whiteface wasn't the only place in New York making news. Watertown, Buffalo and Syracuse all set records for low temperatures on Friday, January 5th according to the Weather Channel.

Temperatures will be on the positive side at 24 degrees today, which sounds like a heat wave compared to -79.

In central New York we're warming up to 32 degrees but the there's another storm bringing up to 7 inches of snow. The Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 7am Tuesday, January 9th.
