USA Today recently asked their NY travel writers to agree on a list of the top 10 best attractions in New York State. Their list is exactly what you'd expect, but we think they left out some great options.

Here is the list that USA Today decided on for the top 10 best attractions in the state:

  1. Letchworth State Park - Castile
  2. Watkins Glen State Park - Watkins Glen
  3. The Corning Museum of Glass - Corning
  4. Frank Lloyd Wright’s Martin House Complex - Buffalo
  5. Niagara Falls - Niagara
  6. Empire State Building - New York City
  7. Women's Rights National Historical Park - Seneca Falls
  8. Statue Of Liberty - New York City
  9. Broadway Theatre District - New York City
  10. National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum - Cooperstown

Obviously this list is well thought out and takes into account both the beauty and history of the Empire State, but there are a few attractions we think belong that were left out.

1. The Adirondack Mountains

The Adirondack Park is not only the largest publicly protected area in the United States, it is also one of the most beautiful. Filled with dozens of sleepy mountain towns, lakes and rivers, there is something to do in the Adirondacks in every season.

2. Boldt Castle/1,000 Islands

Another jewel of New York State. The 1,000 Islands region is beautiful and is full of places to explore. Boldt Castle is a famous NY landmark and can't be missed. Sure the Empire State Building is huge, but Boldt Castle is in the middle of a river!

3. Ausable Chasm

'The Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks' - with a title like that, we really shouldn't have to say any more. If you still need convincing though, there are a ton of things to do in and around Ausable Chasm including hiking, camping and whitewater rafting, but taking a tube through the beautiful canyon might be the best way to explore.

4. The Great New York State Fair

Where else can you eat a burger with doughnut buns and see some of the biggest names in entertainment all in one place? The Great New York State Fair is the perfect place to get to know New York by sampling food, beer and wine from artisans, crafts from local vendors and even a butter sculpture!

Thousands of people descend on Utica every summer for one of the fastest growing road races in the world. The race is a sanctioned running event and brings athletes from all over the world to Utica, NY each July. With worldwide news coverage and one of the biggest post-race parties ever, the Boilermaker should be recognized as one of New York's biggest attractions.

That's better. Whose list do you like more, ours or USA Today's? Did we leave any NYS attractions out?
