Is this really what the rest of the world thinks of us? The Urban Dictionary does not put a positive light on Central New York.  We can change that by adding our own definitions.

The Urban Dictionary is a website online that accepts personal definitions of random words and phrases. Anyone can post a definition. Most of the definitions focus on weaknesses or bad qualities as you can see by the map above.

Let's come up with our own definitions for our area.

Utica: One of the best comeback stories in the world. Numerous buildings on the  National Register of Historic Places, it's filled with art's, entertainment, sports and a foodies dream come true.

Central New York: The heart of New York. We care about our communities and the people who live in them. We're fierce supporters of one another and our local businesses.

New Hartford: A proud community with wonderful family-owned restaurants, stores, boutiques, flower shops and more.

Holland Patent: A beautiful throwback to the old days. Neighbors helping neighbors, church suppers, and community dinners.

Barneveld: A scenic spot with rolling hills and beautiful architecture. A wonderful place to raise a family.

New York Mills: A charming, vibrant village with preserved natural beauty. During the summer, neighbors enjoy family festivities and weekly concerts at the covered pavilion.

Sauquoit: Beautifully nestled in the Sauquoit Valley along Route 8. A perfect spot for fishing, hunting. It was as loved by pioneers and early settlers as it is today.

Marcy: The history of Marcy was the inspiration for the book and film "Drums Along The Mohawk." It's also home to 4 of the best radio stations in the market. But maybe we're just prejudiced.

Remsen: Home of the world famous Remsen Barn Festival Of The Arts, impressive music programs, home of Erin Hamlin, Cymanfa Ganu, their Welch Hymn Sings, and The Soda Fountain - A fun destination for one and all.

Rome: The home of so much history from Ft. Stanwix, the Erie Canal, the "Copper City," Francis Bellamy, and Alex Haley. Tons of historical architecture  and People who live in Rome are proud Romans.

Poland: Those who live in Poland are up for the adventure. Poland school district is one of the largest in NYs and the fire dept has a huge area to protect. It's said the Village is named Poland because of the location to Russia N.Y. similar to Europe.

Clinton: A beautiful quaint, quiet village with a beautiful village green that hosts the Clinton Farmers Market. Clinton is also where the Bristol-Myers Company began in 1887.

We think that's much better don't you? It may not be perfect, but at least, it's moving things in a positive direction
