Traits run in families, like hair and eye color. And in this Oneida County family, saving others and their property, is in their genes. This week, our First Responder Friday series salutes, brothers, Vinnie and Vito Ouimette.

The two gentlemen get their traits for helping the community honestly. Their father, Richard Ouimette has been a firefighter serving as Assistant Chief with The Clark Mills Fire Department, Deputy Fire Coordinator for Oneida County, and over the course of 35+ years of service held many other positions.

Vinnie has been a fire fighter for Westmoreland Fire Department and is currently a member at Clark Mills. He's also a career paramedic with Amcare Ambulance being honored with several awards and recognized many times at the Midstate EMS awards.

Vito began with The Clark Mills Fire Department, eventually becoming Lieutenant and now serves with The Willowvale Fire Department. He also volunteers as a driver with Cocvac Ambulance. He too has been honored at the Midstate EMS awards, as Youth Provider of the year in 2016.

Both Vito and Vinnie were nominate as our First Responders of the Week by their sister, Victoria Cesarini.

With a family full of first responders, I can’t pick just one; so I’m nominating two. My (not so) little brothers, Vinnie and Vito Ouimette are my two favorite heroes.

Do you know a first responder that deserves to be recognized? Tell us about someone who should be honored in Central New York - a firefighter, police officer, EMT, forest ranger, paramedic, DEC officers, military, rescuers, front line workers, or any other person first on the scene.

Include their name, a picture and why they should be recognized during 'First Responder Friday." We'll honor one first responder every Friday and as a way to say thank you, we'll give them a Bundt cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes.
