What started as a routine traffic stop on the New York State Thruway quickly turned chaotic, and amazingly, no one was seriously hurt.

Two New York State Police troopers were conducting a traffic stop along the right shoulder of the Thruway in Mamaroneck.

While the troopers were standing near the Mercedes car they pulled over, another vehicle, driven by Kevin Ariel Cunache Moyolema, from Connecticut, slammed into the patrol car from behind. HARD!

So hard, the impact pushed the patrol car into the Mercedes, after hitting one of the troopers.

Miraculous Minor Injuries

The injured trooper was taken to the hospital and, miraculously, only suffered minor injuries. The second trooper was not hit.

Move Over, Stay Safe

This crash is a stark reminder of why the New York State Move Over Law exists.

Drivers are required to move over or slow down when approaching emergency vehicles stopped along the road. It’s designed to protect first responders and everyone on the road — following it can save lives.

Investigators urge all drivers to stay alert, follow the Move Over Law, and be extra cautious whenever they see emergency lights along the highway.

THIS is Why You Should Move Over

The New York State Move Over Law was enacted in 2012 to protect law enforcement officers, emergency workers, tow and service vehicle operators, and other maintenance workers stopped along roadways while performing their duties. This is what happens when you don't move over. It's not only dangerous, it's the law!
