We have seen a couple of New York State Thruway rest areas reopen but that may be all for a while. It looks as if the project to revamp and rebuild the twenty-seven Thruway rest areas is significantly delayed.
The major snowstorm hitting the western and northern parts of New York is closing a number of roads to commercial traffic including the Thruway and Interstate 81. Other drivers may want to avoid driving if at all possible too. Especially in the hardest-hit areas of the state.
The NYSP says Brenda M. Evans (age 56) of Utica faces an aggravated driving while intoxicated charge after an alleged incident on the Thruway on September 10, 2022.
There has been a lot of construction being done on the New York State Thruway Rest Areas and finally, we are starting to see some of the rest stops being completed. Although the first rest area is open, this is one of the smaller versions of what the other ones will look like. The Indian Castle rest area just 90 minutes west of Albany is beautiful with a Popeye's and Starbucks inside. It boasts a Starbucks drive-thru and a convenience store featuring a variety of New York state products.
Temporary lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on New York State highways will be suspended now until 6:00AM on Tuesday, May 31 to ease travel through the Memorial Day Weekend.
