Yes, today is a day that we can officially celebrate the wonderful goodness of trail mix ingredients, like granola, raisins, nuts and dried fruit. Why such a celebration? Well, today is National Trail Mix Day--one of my new favorite "holidays" (I actually just found out about it, this is the first year I am officially celebrating).

Being a health nut and a vegan, trail mix is a dietary staple for me. Not only is it wonderful protein, trail mix also tastes delicious. So, in celebration of this wonderful occasion they call National Trail Mix Day, I'd like to share with you my trail mix recipes. I use the term "recipes" very loosely, as all I do is dump the ingredients into a bowl and eat them.

What I do is go to the local health food store and buy bulk items--it's more economical that way. I get a bag of unsalted mixed nuts, a bag of dried fruit and some raisins. Mix 'em all together, and you have a wonderfully simple trail mix. Now, if you're feeling more adventurous, try this mixture: get a bag of unsalted mixed nuts, a bag of sesame sticks, sunflower seeds and some wasabi peas. Mix them all together and hit the trails. The wasabi peas have the kick you need to get you up that mountain.

So, today, in honor of National Trail Mix Day, indulge in a handful of trail mix.

What trail mix recipes do you have? Is anyone else as excited for National Trail Mix Day as I am?
