A New Hartford teen with down syndrome is in a national commercial during Down Syndrome Awareness Month.

Walmart is announcing they plan to extend the time stores are open after cutting back times amid the COVID pandemic, including stores in Utica and Rome.

If you shop at Walmart locations in Rome, Utica, Herkimer, New Hartford, and Syracuse, you'll soon notice they will look different.

Walmart said it would resume two-way shopping in all of its 4,753 U.S. stores at the beginning of October and also reopen some additional store entrances that had been closed temporarily to help control the flow of customer traffic.

Walmart, with stores in Utica and Rome, is announcing plans to raise the wages of 160,000 employees, as well as offering new leadership roles for workers. Some employees could earn as much as $30 per hour.

Walmart locations in Utica, Rome, New Hartford, Herkimer, and Oneida have all closed nightly at 8:30PM. Walmart has announced they will be open later once again.

As the pandemic circulates, many retailers have made the decision to close their stores on Thanksgiving so employees can spend time with their families.
