Students all across New York state head back to school this week, with a lot of school districts starting today, some starting Wednesday and some on Thursday.
New York State's Department of Education has now done what the state's Department or Health decided not to do: issue guidance for schools to return in-person in September. The new comes as districts are scrambling to set policy by interpreting CDC guidelines which were issued on August 1.
According to Betty Rosa, the head of the NYSED, they were forced to develop guidance because the state health department and Governor Cuomo's office did not.
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced the launch of "The COVID-19 Report Card", which tracks real-time COVID-19 infections and testing of every New York school.
