Battling cancer just got a little easier for a 4 year-old central New York girl thanks to the kindness of a stranger.

Sandy Ottley of Geneva, New York needed a new tablet ASAP. Her granddaughter Alle's broke and she uses it during cancer treatments. When Alle doesn't feel good, is tired, sick, or scared, they give her the tablet to "kind of take the moments away,” Sandy tells WHAM.

Off to the Best Buy at the Eastview Mall in Rochester the family went. That's where they met Israel Martinez. "He had spoke to me about Alle, realizing she had cancer by her bald head and frail body," Sandy shared on Facebook. The 4 year-old has already had three surgeries and taken months of chemo since being diagnosed last September.

After browsing the tablets Martinez "went into the back room to see if they had what we were looking for." He  returned with the new tablet and a 2 year protection planned included for $170. For Alle and her family it was free. Martinez bought it for her. "We weren't sure it was real," says Sandy. "It sounded too good to be true." It was true and Alle has been enjoying her tablet every day. "Alle has been so happy since getting the tablet, especially that evening when she became ill from the radiation treatments."

Alle has 8 more radiation treatments and will have chemotherapy into the fall. In addition to battling cancer, a week before being diagnosed, her family found she has Autism. "The tablet has been beneficial in so many ways," says Sandy. "It provides comfort, distraction, language development and skill acquisition. Sometimes it was all we had when she wasn’t able to cope."

Israel Martinez is our 'Hometown Hero' for bringing a little joy into a little girl's life at a time when she and her family can use it most.
