Have you been under the weather recently? If you eat fresh basil, it could be the reason why. Health officials are saying a 'gastrointestinal illness' affecting New York residents could be cause by basil.

According to a News 10 report, basil from iga Logistics S. de R.L de C.V of Mexico could be connected to some local residents coming down with the 'Cyclosporiasis illness.'  News 10 says symptoms of the illness include "watery diarrhea, and can include loss of appetite, weight loss, stomach cramps, bloating, nausea and fatigue." These symptoms usually pop up around 1 to 2 weeks after eating the affected food.

This is one of those things where it is better to be safe than sorry right,? So throw out any fresh basil you may have purchased to avoid possibly getting sick.
