There have been too many cases of animal cruelty reported here in Central New York, including the murder of a horse in Kirkland. This isn't just something that is a problem here locally. A Deputy Sheriff in Ramsey County, MN has not been fired from his job even after video footage catches him beating his K9 companion Boone.

According to the website The Dodo,

Deputy Brett Berry, from the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department, in Minnesota, pleaded guilty to charges of animal cruelty against Boone stemming from an incident that occurred last June. Surveillance footage taken at the scene, a casino parking lot where the officer was training Boone, shows Berry repeatedly striking the dog and throwing him against the ground

The officer admitted to his wrong-doings and even tried to use the fact that he was intoxicated as an excuse for his behavior. What will it take for their to be stricter penalties for people who harm animals, especially an animal that is trained to serve and protect? This should be the equivalent of beating a fellow police officer. It's inconceivable that this man will serve time, yet still keep his job. When watching the video above be warned it is extremely disturbing.
