It's not too late to prepare your rose bushes for winter. Not only is it not too late, but the Master Gardeners at Cornell Cooperative Extension say it's the perfect time.

The best time to prepare the bush is after a hard frost in October or November.  Hybrid Teas, Grandifloras and Floribundas roses - one should mound up soil around the base of the plant 10 to 12 inches deep. The mounded soil will add winter protection to the plants. Prune back the rose canes that are taller than 2 feet tall or one can tie them to a stake so the canes do not get wind whipped.
