It's nearly as bad as the cereal aisle at the local grocery store, the choices seem endless. Picking the right herbicide to control weeds in your corn field doesn't have to be a guessing game with this chart from Cornell Cooperative Extension

When it comes to weed control:

pre emergent products as your best choice…reducing weed competition from the start and should be applied soon after planting

Now that most crops are in to the 2-4 week range, post emergence herbicides are the only option.  Take a walk through the field and develop list of weeds found in each field. Consider timing, price, rotation of chemical families, residual and succeeding crops and practicality when selecting herbicides.

CCE's website has this great guide, Corn Herbicide effectiveness that identifies what product works best on broadleaf and grasses.  Of course always read the label and apply post emergence herbicides at recommended timing for the major weeds in the field.
