Pet Lovers - Herkimer County Humane Society Needs Your Help

The Herkimer County Humane Society is in need of a few crucial supplies for their dogs, puppies, cats and kittens. Here's how you can help.

As you may know, the Herkimer Humane Society is a not-for-profit organization, meaning that most of their funding comes directly from animal lovers like you.

Right now the shelter is very low on a few things that mean quite a lot to the animals.

Shelter Manager Joann says they really need food for the animals along with some cleaning supplies, and one item that you may find surprising.

Here's the list:

Purina Kitten Chow
Purina Cat Chow
Dish detergent
Laundry detergent
Bleach to clean and disinfect
Regular clay kitty litter
Towels and washcloths
Garbage bags

Now for the surprising request.

Joann says one thing that they ask for that's a little strange is canned 'Cheese Wiz.' The Cheese Wiz is used to distract the animals and keep them preoccupied when it's time for vaccinations - making that part much easier.

Of course these are just the supplies that are most crucial right now. The shelter is always in need of your generosity, and you can find their full Wish List at HerkHumane.org.

All of your donations really make a difference at the shelter, and not just for the animals. Knowing the supplies are available and that they won't have to scramble to find enough for each animal makes for a much better day for the volunteer workers at the shelter too.
