Welcome to the first edition of "On the Road with Polly," where I give you an inside view of a local company, from the products they make to what makes them a great place to work.

This time, we're going behind the scenes at Cold Point Corp., where they make water-source heat pumps and air conditioning units for commercial buildings, including hospitals, offices, hotels, assisted living centers, and more. They assemble each unit right here in Rome and ship them nationwide and throughout Canada.

Cold Point Corp. has operated in our area for 22 years, but they just moved to this new and fabulous facility 8 months ago. Watch as they give me a tour:

I love that they were kind (and trusting!) enough to allow me to press the button on their new machine that cuts and bends copper tubing to exact specifications, but what I was most impressed with was the atmosphere among all the staff. As we walked across the floor, I saw so many smiles and genuinely happy people.

They have several openings, as they are looking to open a third assembly line, and I have to tell you — if I were looking for a job, I'd apply. The 50,000-square-foot building has room for them to expand in the future, and I love that they buy their supplies from local companies when possible. They even clean the production floor with a Zamboni!

Their benefits package is above and beyond what you'd typically see — we're talking profit-sharing opportunities on top of free uniforms, an annual bonus opportunity and 10 paid holidays a year, and up to 40 hours of paid sick or personal time. After a year of service, you get 10 days of paid vacation, too.

During my visit, I learned there is plenty of room for advancement, and they truly have friendly employees who seem to love their jobs. There is no "I" in team.

What are you waiting for?!? Click here to apply online or call Operations Manager Kathy Marmol at 315-339-2331. You don't want to miss this opportunity to work in a spanking new, bright facility with happy coworkers!
