Nearly 650 People in 11 States Sick From Recalled Bagged Salad
Nearly 650 people in 11 states have become sick from recalled salad.
On June 27, Fresh Express recalled products containing either iceberg lettuce, red cabbage or carrots over concerns of Cyclospora. Common symptoms from the parasite include severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, body aches, and fatigue.
The FDA is reporting 641 cases, with 37 hospitalizations in 11 states. That's up from 509 cases in 8 states reported on July 9th. So far no one in New York has reported getting sick from the recalled salad. The 11 states with reported cases include North and South Dakota, Kansas, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Georgia and Pennsylvania.
The recalled salad bags have the product code Z178, or a lower number. The “Best by” date on the products run through July 14, 2020.
DO NOT eat the bagged salad. Restaurants and retailers should not sell or serve any of the recalled products that have the Fresh Express label or a number of retail store brand labels:
ALDI Little Salad Bar
Giant Eagle
Hy-Vee
Jewel-Osco Signature Farms
ShopRite Wholesome Pantry
Walmart Marketside.
The recalled products were sold in Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
