Big Frog, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oneida County and Wagner Farms want you to meet the hard working families keeping us fed and clothed. This week we salute a century old farm near Cooperstown, The Fly Creek Valley Dairy Farm.

The farm located at 1316 County Highway 26 in Fly Creek is about 10 minutes from Cooperstown and is in the 5th generation of the Pernat family. 2020 marks the farm's 100th anniversary, currently operated by Jim and Patti Pernat, and their two sons and their families, Matthew and Ellen Pernat along with Mark and Debbie Pernat.

While milking has long been the main focus of the farm, about two years ago they delved into the agri-tourism world with a corn maze and pumpkin patch. This will be their final weekend for the maze operating from 10 until 5 Saturday and Sunday. You can bring your dog this weekend for special treats with funds being raised for the SPCA. Weather permitting they will also feature a haunted maze tonight from 7 to 10 p.m.

We salute the Pernat family for keeping the dream of farming alive through so many generations, beginning in the days of no electricity continuing into today's technology.  Thanks for keeping us all fed and clothed, and now entertained too.
