In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, many of us who were spared from the worst in central New York may wonder what we can do to help those who were devastated by the effects of the storm. The Central New York Chapter of the American Red Cross is now mobilizing to send help.

Here's more from our sister station, WIBX:

"The American Red Cross Central New York Chapter is expected to send 11 volunteers to New York City, New Jersey and other areas along the East Coast that were devastated by Hurricane Sandy.

The volunteers will perform a variety of duties, including disaster assessment, mass care sheltering and mass care feeding. They’ll leave for their assignments this afternoon.

On Monday night, the Red Cross opened two shelters because of power outages — one in Lee Center and the other in Oneonta."
