Whitesboro, NY (WIBX) - Hostess' decision to shut down happened only three days ago, but already the manufacturer's closure is having an impact locally.

At the Hostess Bakery Outlet store in Whitesboro, customers clamor for the last discounted boxes of Mini Muffins and Fudge Cremes, while loaves of Wonder Bread fly off the shelves.

Deana Bartolomie and Al Nucci were two of those customers. As they fill the back of their vehicle with bags and boxes, Nucci talks about the iconic brand.

"It's a type of dessert that everybody can't live without," Nucci said, as Bartolomie laughed and quickly responded. "By the looks of you, you can tell you can't live without!"

Nucci says even if the popular brand is bought by a competitor, he may not return to the brand.

"I think we're going to have to go to a cemetery, so we can bury one of the Hostess Twinkies," Nucci joked.

"Oh Al, I think I'm going to cry," Bartolomie laughed.

According to the Hostess brands website, nearly 1200 bakeries, distribution centers and bakery outlet stores, like the one in Whitesboro, are closing.
