This Saturday (9/23) is the first of four days that non-residents and residents of New York State can fish for free on any of the state's freshwaters.

The "free fishing day" is part of Governor Cuomo's NY Open for Fishing and Hunting Initiative and it's for those new to the sport of fishing to give it a chance without a license.

Although, a license is not required - "Free Fishing Day" participants must still follow all the state's fishing regulations.

In a press release, Governor Cuomo says:

"New York has some of the best fishing and hunting in the nation, and I encourage everyone to come explore the great opportunities across the state and take advantage of our free fishing days."

In addition to this Saturday, other "free fishing days" in the state are...

  • November 11
  • February 17-18, 2018
  • June 23-24, 2018
