Here in Upstate New York everyone is trying to help with Harvey Relief efforts. About 20 soldiers from the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum will be dispatched to Texas to support the military’s response to Tropical Storm Harvey.

According to the Watertown Daily Times, soldiers from the 510th Human Resources Platoon are being used to assist in relief efforts. The group, which deployed with only 24 hours notice, left from Fort Drum Wednesday afternoon and flew to Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio.

In a video provided by the post, 2nd Lt. William Scott, the platoon’s leader, said his older sister and her family were evacuated from their home in the Houston area, and are currently safe and staying in the George R. Brown Convention Center.

“I take this very personal and very serious, to ensure that we’re providing a helping hand as much as we can and ensuring that they know that the U.S. government is on their side,” Lt. Scott said."

There are plenty of ways for Central New Yorkers to still help out with relief efforts.
