Dollar General Dedicate First Hour Open To Senior Shoppers

It's been very hectic at local grocery stores and other retailers the past week, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the state of emergency in New York. It's been particularly hard on senior citizens when it comes to shopping in these tough times.

One retailer is planning on helping.

According to WIVB, Dollar General will dedicate the first hour open to senior shoppers. This will happen every shopping day for the foreseeable future.

Seniors are the most vulnerable to the coronavirus and this will allow them to get their necessary shopping done.

“In keeping with the Company’s mission of ‘Serving Others,’ Dollar General wants to provide these at-risk customers with the ability to purchase the items they need and want at the beginning of each day to avoid busier and more crowded shopping periods,” the company said.

Dollar General will also close one hour earlier than normally, so employees can clean and restock store shelves.

“In keeping with our mission and our ongoing commitment to serve our communities, we are dedicating the first hour of each day to seniors. We appreciate our customers’ understanding of our decision and request they visit our stores later in the morning to allow at-risk populations the ability to purchase the items they need at affordable prices,” said Todd Vasos, Dollar General’s CEO.

According to their website, most stores open at 8 am.
