It's a milestone anniversary at the New York State Fair this year.  The annual Dairy Day turns 40 in 2016, oddly enough the butter sculpture is older as it celebrates 48 years. Click for schedule of events.

The fair runs from August 25 through September 5, with Dairy Day in the spotlight August 29.  It's designed to say "thank you" and recognize the more than 5-thousand dairy farms that comprise New York's largest ag sector.  It's also intended to showcase the great dairy products made in New York.

Bruce W. Krupke, Chairperson, NYS Fair Dairy Task Force says, "It is really great to have the dairy industry be recognized by the Fair, we represent over half of the State's largest industry which is agriculture, allowing us to showcase what we have to offer to the public is very important."

Of course the butter sculpture is one of the most visited sites at the annual fair.  There's also a milk bar, cheese and yogurt sampling and even a birth center that features live births each day.  Here's the schedule of events:

Celebrity Cow Milking Contest 3:00 p.m. - Toyota Coliseum
New York “Big Cheese” Auction 11:00 a.m. – Chevrolet Court Pavilion
Open Holstein Show 8:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. - Toyota Coliseum
Dairy Day Parade 6:00 p.m. - Starting in Chevrolet Court
