Help Needed in New York: Snow-Covered Stop Signs on Trails
Finally, winter is here in New York for snow lovers!
After waiting for what felt like forever, Central and Upstate New York got a solid dump of snow — and snowmobile trails are looking great. Groomers have been busy and trails are now in tip-top shape. For riders, it’s prime conditions and plenty of fun ahead.
That said, Mother Nature delivered in a short amount of time, and with the heavy snowfall come a few challenges.
The Redfield Snowmobile Association is warning riders about several STOP and STOP AHEAD signs that are buried under the snow. There has already been one rider that missed a sign and got T-boned on County Route 17.
Slow down — your life depends on it.

Hidden Hazards
There’s also some hidden hazards under the snow, including water holes, open water, rocks, mud, and tree branches.
A little caution goes a long way.

Respect the Trails
Despite these bumps, traffic on the trails has been high as everyone takes advantage of the long-awaited snow.
It’s exciting to see winter enthusiasts finally out enjoying the season, but the rules are still the rules.

Respect the trails, stay on marked paths, and remember these trails exist thanks to generous landowners. One careless rider could risk access for everyone.
So, while it might be a few tricky miles here and there, the snow is beautiful, the trails are covered, and the winter season is officially on.
Take your time, watch for hazards, and enjoy the ride — Central New York finally has the winter we’ve all been waiting for.
