“I am in shock now, Taz was one of my best friends,” says Charlie Daniels. “The CDB family has lost a great friend and musician. We traveled many miles together and shared so many nights on the road. We’re going to miss you buddy. You were one of a kind and will never be forgotten.  We send our deepest condolences to the family.”
That is Charlie Daniels' ode to his life long friend and keyboard player, Joel "Taz" DiGregorio.  DiGregorio was killed in a car accident outside of Nashville last night on his way to meet the tour bus for a show in Georgia. Taz was a part of the Charlie Daniels Band for 40 years and co-wrote many of their hits, including "The Devil Went Down To Georgia."  I was fortunate enough to spend some time with him at a show in Watertown several years ago and the name "Taz" was very appropriate.  For some reason Charlie's introduction of him on the stage that night has always stuck in my head, "And no country band would be complete with a genuwine I-talian keyboard player."  The Nashville newspaper, The Tennessean
