The story goes that when Henry Ford disolved his motor company, his financial backers brought in an engineer to appraise the plant and all of it's equipment. Instead the engineer, Henry M. Leland, convinced them to keep producing cars.  Leland became involved and named the company after one of his ancestors and the founder of the city of Detroit, Antoine Laumet de la Mothe, Sieur de Cadillac.  The rolled out their first car on this day in 1902.
