According to our sister station, WIBX:

"Boilermaker officials handed Utica Mayor Rob Palmieri a check for $10,000 to help pay for additional police needed on the street for this year’s sold-out race.

Race Executive Director Tim Reed says the City’s financial woes are well-known, and if the Race needs to pull its own this year it’s just part of the teamwork that makes the event a success.

The gesture was noble but Reed says it was also practical considering the fact that the Boilermaker brings about 40,000 people together in Utica."
