It’s A Boy! Animal Adventure Park Welcomes It’s Newest Addition
Animal Adventure in Harpursville is welcoming a few new members to their fold. On Tuesday, June 21st, they welcomed a grants zebra foal to the family. Mom, Zira was being a protective mother, so they had to wait a few days until they could find out if it was a male or female.
They were kept off exhibit for a while until everyone got settled down. After a couple of days, the keepers at Animal Adventure were able to get a better look and determine that she gave birth to a male zebra foal named Zeke.
When someone talks about Zebras what comes to mind? Is it Fruit Stripe gum? Maybe it's Zebra cakes or mini donuts. Hmmm donuts, I digress. When I think about Zebras, it's their beautiful stripes that come to mind.
The exact reason for their stripes can be debated, but most experts think they evolved to provide a combination of camouflage, temperature control, and protection from harmful insects.
Why harmful insects? Some of them are reluctant to land on striped surfaces. Zebras are native to over 15 African countries and we are fortunate to be able to see them in our own backyard at Animal Adventure.
Animal Adventure is located at 85 Martin Hill Road in Harpursville. If you are looking for more adventures that are close to home, here are some small towns to visit that won't cost you an arm and a leg in gas money to get to.
