The Mohawk Valley Police Academy which trains law enforcement recruits for departments all over the county received a nice new gift from the 2015 Partners in Prosperity Public Safety Funding. This new gift is an $81,000 police training simulator or 'F.A.T.S.' system. We got to try it out!

After experiencing this simulator I have new perspective on what police officers go through every singe day. You never know when a routine call could turn violent or when something like a school shooting could occur. The split second decisions law enforcement officials have to make is the difference between life and death. That type of responsibility is not easy to have. It takes a special man or woman do be able to do this line of work and you should always be respectful and grateful to all those who put their life on the line to protect and serve. I want to thank Oneida County Sheriff Rob Maciol and Lt. Steve Hauck of the Utica Police Dept. for giving me this awesome opportunity. I also want to thank Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente for using this money to properly train our first responders.
