Levine plays Dave, Gretta's (Keira Knightley) boyfriend. The two are college sweethearts and songwriting partners. They head for New York where he lands a record deal. Dave's new-found fame tempts him to stray, and leaves Gretta on her own.  Sounds pretty close to real life, doesn't it?

Dan (Mark Ruffalo), a disgraced record-label exec, stumbles upon Keira/Gretta performing and is captivated by her raw talent.

Begin Again is in theaters July 4th.
